Linotype FontExplorer X folder replacement

By Kuswanto @ 28.11.07 · Tags: , ,

When Linotype updated their FontExplorer X the font management application for Leopard. They did not update its font folder that reside in your home folder. It’s look like the image below, the font folder is still using Tiger default folder icon. If you change the folder icon, it will change back to its default folder when the app launched. Because, Linotype FontExplorer X will call the icns file and replaced your custom folder icon.

Before

What we do is to replace the Tiger folder into Leopard folder style. You can download the replacement icon folder at the bottom of this post.

Locate the folder

Go to you Applications folder, and right click on FontExplorer X, and choose Show Content Packages. Inside the Linotype FontExplorer X window, navigate to Contents/Resources, find an icons named FontExplorerXfolder.icns.

The suspect

Backup is always good

Just in case, or if you want to keep to original icon, just duplicate the icns file.

Download and Replace

Download the replacement icons. We have created two alternative icons. Rename the replacement icons to match the original icns name. Now, replace the original icon with the replacement icon of your choice.

Make things faster

I thought by log out or restarting the OS will change the folder icon immediately , it’s not. So to speed things up.. or if you want you can wait until Leopard clear it’s icon cache. If you want to change the folder right away, do this.

In the replacement icon folder you see the folder icon that doesn’t have file extension. Copy the icon folder of you choice (by pressing Command + C ) and than right click on Linotype folder icon on your home directory and choose Get Info. Press the little icon on top right of Get Info dialog, and press Command + V. Now you have change the Linotype font folder.

This is the after treatment preview.

After Replacement

Download it

Okay now you can download the replacement icons :-)
