Mail selected files with automator

By Kuswanto @ 21.04.08 · Tags: ,

One feature that I really like from Mac OSX is, Automator. It can save your time and reduce daily repeated workflow. Recently I do a lot of attached files to my email messages. And always get tired to drag the email or press the attach button, browse the file and than insert it to my Mail message. So i try to figure out an automatic task using Automator. Lets do a little step by step automator action.

Step one, Open up Automator (duuh!), either by search using Spotlight or open your Applications folder. Select Finder from the Library, and choose Get Selected Items, drag it to the right pane.

Step two, choose Mail from the Library. Choose New Email Message, and drag it to the right pane.

We are almost done, really short, eh? Lets test our little Automator action. Select any files on your Finder, then press the Run button. After a few of seconds, new mail message will appear with the files attached.

Final step, lets save it. Choose Save As Plug-in, and choose Finder, i named my action as Mail it.

Whenever you want to send any files using Mail, just fired up the Automator command by right clicking the files and choose More > Automator > Mail it.

Note: I tested it when Mail is not running, the result is the new message does not attach the selected items.
